Saturday in the Park 5K 2008- August 30, Holmdel Park, Holmdel, New Jersey Women Taking Steps to Help Women
The Saturday in the Park Race Committee of the Jersey Shore Running Club is working hard to ensure the 2008 event is as successful as each of the past 14 years. Hope to see you there!
Over the past fourteen years, Saturday in the Park has financially supported local women’s charities with programs dedicated to providing shelter, counseling, advocacy and education for women and their families in Monmouth and Ocean counties - places of safety where hope can be realized and a new way of living can be learned. Our
2008 list of organizations will include:
Epiphany House of Asbury Park & Long
Branch. Epiphany House provides transitional housing and services to create and maintain a self-affirming life to homeless women and children who seek to recover from addiction. A major goal of the organization is to break the chain of addiction by preventing children from repeating these patterns.
Providence House, Lakewood. Providence House offers services to women and children who are affected by domestic violence. Services include emergency shelter, crisis intervention, counseling and therapy as well as community education and training.
Spring House, Eatontown
- provides housing, life and work skill classes as well as childcare, for homeless women with children, providing the “springboard” to help residents learn life skills to gain self-sufficiency.
Saturday in the Park and the Jersey
Shore Running Club offer a beginner’s running program, Womens
Running 101 beginning in June. WR101 is designed for
beginners with little or no previous exposure to running or those who
have been out of running for an extended period. Students in WR101 will
develop the necessary conditioning for endurance running and learn the
basic techniques for distance running. The program includes 12 weekly
instructional training sessions, training schedules, weekly e-mail
updates and motivation from the coaches, various support materials and a
top-quality running shirt. The program is designed to gradually build up
the students’ running fitness and have them able to comfortably run
the Saturday in the Park 5K by the end of the 12 week training period.
